I-80 Bridge over the Missouri River

Project Overview:

Construction of a 2500' bridge spanning the Missouri River between Iowa and Nebraska adjacent to the existing I-80 bridge. This bridge construction is a portion of the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) Council Bluffs Interstate System improvement projects. The nearly half mile long, 84' wide bridge will eventually carry 6 lanes of traffic.

RW Engineering & Surveying's involvement:

Surveying crews were involved with the job beginning with setting out the limits of construction at the onset of the project and concluding with crews working on girders 80' above the river to provide the contractor with girder elevations on top of the nearly completed structure. Layout was also provided for the major structures of the bridge as well as the necessary work for an approach road on the east side of the project. Additional work included staking rough grade, slope stakes, drainage structures, the roadway base, and an 1100' MSE retaining wall. Our crews also provided a topographic survey of the wetlands near the river and provided the contractor with a horizontal and vertical control network on both sides of the Missouri River.
